La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit, Mexico – 2019. I was in Mexico on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build in El Monteón which is a small town located in the state of Nayarit, about 70km north of Puerto Vallarta and just a few miles from the tourist town of Rincón de Guayabitos were we stayed during and after the build. La Peñita de Jaltemba or simply La Peñita is a small beach town in Nayarit, Mexico, with a population of approximately 20,000. It is located on Jaltemba Bay, 64 kilometers north of Puerto Vallarta and immediately north of Rincón de Guayabitos. La Peñita is a commercial town with banks and other public facilities while Guayabitos is a resort town with hotels and tourist shops. Each Thursday a tianguis or street market happens in Peñita. It is one of the largest tianguis in the region and sells tourist foods, fresh fruits, meat, fish, vegetables, clothing, hardware and much more.
